Dr. D.D.A. Hettiarachchi is a highly respected and veteran Vaidyacharya (traditional physician) of Sri Lanka, with decades of dedicated practice in the field of indigenous medicine. With profound expertise in treating complex viral conditions such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and even Covid-19, Dr. Hettiarachchi has earned national and international recognition for his effective and unique therapeutic approaches where conventional medicine often falls short.

Trained at the historic Gunaratna Mudalinda Pirivena in Southern Sri Lanka—renowned for producing many eminent traditional physicians—he has preserved and revived ancestral knowledge through both clinical practice and scholarly work. His landmark publication, Kōla Vidhi Vata, is a transcription of a rare 16th-century palm-leaf manuscript handed down through generations of his family. The book serves as a testament to his lifelong mission of reviving and transmitting ancient healing wisdom to future generations and the global academic community.

Dr. Hettiarachchi is especially recognized for his mastery in diagnosing and treating sanni, kōla, and valippu conditions—interrelated categories of disease traditionally managed through holistic practices, therapeutic burning, and indigenous medicine preparations. His work emphasizes the use of purified herbal and mineral formulations passed down through family traditions, combining spiritual rituals with practical treatment methods.

Through his leadership, dedication, and scholarly output, Dr. Hettiarachchi continues to be a pillar of traditional Sri Lankan medical heritage. His family, especially his younger son Prageeth and daughter-in-law Damayanthi, have played key roles in supporting the translation and global dissemination of his work, helping to bring Sri Lanka’s indigenous healing legacy to international platforms.
